The organisation comprises a group of directors and an educational advisory board. We run a membership scheme which offers discounted submission fees for the exhibition, two newsletters per year, the opportunity to attend a special preview of the exhibition, and other ad hoc special offers.

An exhibition is held each year which is accompanied by lively debates and a competition with lucrative prizes. We also offer study bursaries to selected artists and organise special events from time to time.

The exhibition comprises both publicly submitted works and works independently selected by six prominent figures from different areas of the art world: two artists, two collectors and two critics. Each section is hung separately to give each its own distinctive identity. The impression emerges of six small exhibitions within the whole.

It provides an unusual opportunity for works by lesser-known artists to be hung alongside contributions from internationally recognised names.

The selectors are solely responsible for their own selection. The only restrictions are limitation of size (only small works are permitted) and to select at least 25% of their section from the open submission.

The exhibition is held at The Mall Galleries in London in mid-November each year and entry is free. All the works shown are for sale and the Discerning Eye adds commission to these sales to help fund our activities.

The exhibition is also supported by the sponsorship of ING Wholesale Banking, without which we should not have been able to continue and to grow.
