newsletter archive newsletter 16 - autumn 2009 DE in Cirencester In our last newsletter, we reported that DE Chairman, John Penrose, was restoring and renovating a lovely Grade II listed building in Cirencester, which had for the last 36 years been an antiques showroom, and opening an art gallery which would also give The Discerning Eye a permanent base. ![]() Work in progress at the Cirencester gallery Over the last year, the building has undergone a major top to bottom restoration. John has had to cope with dry rot, asbestos and significant structural repairs. Perished stone has been replaced, there's a new roof and the exterior has been lime rendered in the traditional way. The gallery is now taking shape. The Dollar Street Gallery is due to be opened by local resident Anne Robinson, of Watchdog and the Weakest Link, on Saturday 5 December 2009 with its inaugural exhibition 'The Dog Show - a Celebration of the Dog in Art'. It will feature works from David Hockney and Adam Birtwistle to Mini Owen, painter of the Royal corgis. The wonderful news for exhibitors at this year's ING Discerning Eye Exhibition is that John has agreed to show 2009 prize winning works in Cirencester for a further three weeks after the London exhibition, where we hope those artists will be introduced to a new audience and perhaps new buyers. ![]() ![]() Copyright © 2002-2010 The Discerning Eye ~ Web site by Shepperton Software |
