For many artists, particularly those who enter via the open submission process, to be selected to show at The Discerning Eye is something to celebrate. Few, however, realise that there are also prizes on offer and at the Artists' Private View, when winners are announced, there are always many gasps of astonishment! The value of prizes has risen almost 50% since 2001, the jewel in the crown being the £5,000 Purchase Prize generously given by our sponsor, ING. The 2008 ING prize went to Cedric Huson, who graduated from the Royal Academy Schools in 1978 and is now based in Fife. Six of his works were in Fred Cuming's section.
