newsletter archive newsletter 15 - spring 2009 Introduction It was announced at the 2008 ING Discerning Eye Exhibition that Discerning Eye was about to start its own collection. The idea behind this is that the Collection will be available for loan to galleries around the country which might not otherwise have the opportunity or funding to mount shows of their own. Of course it also provides artists associated with Discerning Eye the opportunity to be part of a permanent collection. It was most fitting that the first work to be acquired for the DE Collection, Nick Botting's Full House at the Palladium, was awarded the inaugural Founder's Prize. This was named after Michael Reynolds, DE's founding father and chosen in its first year by Michael's great friend, Brian Sewell. It is also appropriate, and very much appreciated, that Peter and Anne Marie Borsboom of the Fillip Foundation, which was set up in Holland to protect and promote Michael's work, have donated two of his paintings. ![]() ′Full House at the Palladium′ by Nick Botting I would like to take this opportunity to thank Anita Taylor for her major contribution to the DE Educational Panel over the last couple of years. She has just taken up a prestigious position as head of the National Art School in Sydney. We wish her success there and look forward to seeing her in future years. We hope to announce her replacement shortly. Whilst it is our intention to increase the size of the Collection year on year, our initial aim is to mount a touring exhibition of at least twenty to thirty works. To achieve this in the short term, we will be asking some of the buyers whom we know personally to loan works to the Collection. We will also be approaching artists who have previously exhibited at our annual exhibition to ask if they would donate works. More information will be forthcoming, but in the meantime, please let us know if you are a previous DE exhibitor and would like to assist in contributing to the growth of the Collection. ![]() ′Petruta, Blue Cloth′ by Michael Reynolds I would also like to thank the 2008 selectors for their dedication and hard work in selecting, hanging and curating the works in their sections at the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition in November last year. As you will see inside this Newsletter, it was another fabulous and very successful show. Tony Humphreys Chief Executive Copyright © 2002-2010 The Discerning Eye ~ Web site by Shepperton Software |
