Membership is open to all artists for a fee which is currently £40 per year. This entitles artists to submit up to six works for selection to the ING Discerning Eye exhibition in November. For non-members, the price of submitting six works for selection is currently £48. In 2007, we were able to offer Members a discount of up to 35% on Winsor & Newton art materials, via retailers appointed by them. This will be on offer again in 2008.

Of course, membership does not guarantee that your work will be chosen by a selector and hung in the exhibition, but being able to submit 6 works for the price of 5 increases your chances! This year, 18% of the artists whose works were selected from the open submission came from DE Members and of those, over 40% had more than one work selected, with David Gould and Frederick Jones each having 4 of their works chosen.

We hope that your work was one of the selected works, but if not, please try again because as one of the 2002 selectors, Richard Littlejohn, pointed out in that year's exhibition catalogue - 'Next year there will be a different set of Discerning Eyes!'

Anyone can also become a Friend of The Discerning Eye for an annual fee of £10. Friends will be informed of Discerning Eye activities and be invited to the special exhibition preview before the exhibition opens to the public. Purchasers of works from the main exhibition will automatically become a Friend for one year at no cost.

Friends and Members also receive an exhibition catalogue and two Newsletters a year, plus information about other Discerning Eye activities. This year, they have also been offered an exclusive guided tour of DE sponsor ING's acclaimed art collection at its office in the City of London. The second 2007 tour is taking place as this Newsletter goes to print and we hope to be able to report on it in due course. There will be another tour in the new year - details will appear on this website.

The Friends and Members Private View at the Mall Galleries will take place on Wednesday 14 November 2007.

This year's theme is 'A Focus on Printing' and there will be a programme of events to include print making demonstrations. Artists will also be on hand on 14 November 2007 to give informal guided tours of the exhibition.
