The winner of the £1,000 Meynell Fenton Prize was Linda Hubbard, for her tiny portrait 'Him'. This prize, which has been awarded for some years - since The Discerning Eye's early days - is given by valued DE supporter Brenda Fenton, who was formerly a fashion illustrator. She is influenced by the art of drawing and likes to award her prize to "someone who can really draw". Linda Hubbard's painting particularly appealed because of the emotion it conveyed.

Discerning Eye Chief Executive, Tony Humphreys, awarded his Purchase Prize to a striking and intricate painting by Scottish artist Helen Flockhart, a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art. Tony was attracted by the technical excellence of the painting, 'Bloom'.
