newsletter archive newsletter 11 - spring 2007 Prizes (1) 2006 prizes and prizewinnersAt each ING Discerning Eye exhibition, artists have the opportunity to win one of the many prizes on offer, which range from prizes of £250 awarded to works from eight regional areas from which open submissions are collected, to the £5,000 ING Purchase Prize. In 2006, prizewinners were announced at the Artists' Private View on 16 November - much to the surprise of some winners who did not realise that the awards were on offer! The ING Purchase Prize was generously increased by DE sponsors ING to £5,000 in 2006. It was awarded to octogenarian Eric Rimmington for his beautiful still life 'Knife Drawer'. A new prize was awarded at the 2006 exhibition by 2005 selector Martin Smith and his daughter-in-law Elizabeth. This was the New Discovery Prize, for artists who have not had a solo show.There were almost 60 works from the open submissions to choose from and after much deliberation the £1,000 award was given to Ann Manie, for her 'Objects in Sunlight', a collage and acrylic work.
