newsletter archive newsletter 10 - autumn 2006 2006 selectors (1) the 2006 selectorsWith the marvellous support of ING, cemented now with its three year sponsorship of the 2006 – 2008 exhibitions, this year's show is eagerly awaited. The exhibition organisers, Parker Harris, have secured the participation of an impressive panel of selectors, who, like those who have gone before them, will each add their own unique stamp to the selection process and to the collections on show at the Mall Galleries in November. This year's selectors are: Two artists ![]() Stuart Pearson Wright, acclaimed British portraitist who studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, has strong connections with the Discerning Eye, having had works selected in past exhibitions and having been awarded the DE Travel Bursary in 2003. His work is well known and hangs in the National Portrait Gallery, the British Academy, and the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, to mention just a few. He has completed several commissions of figures from the arts world - actors, directors, gallery directors, dancers and writers. He was the winner of the BP Travel Award in 1998 and the BP Portrait Award in 2001. Stuart also won first prize in last year's Garrick/Milne Prize with his portrait of actor Sir Michael Gambon. Anthony Green RA, contemporary realist painter, also studied at the Slade School of Fine Art. He was the featured artist in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2003, where he has been exhibiting every year since 1966. He has had over 70 one man exhibitions in cities worldwide and has works in many public collections, including the Tate Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery. Anthony is also a member of the New English Art Club. Two collectors Mollie Dent Brocklehurst is director of the independent Gagosian Gallery in London. The Gagosian is based in London, New York and Los Angeles and has represented Damien Hirst, Frank Stella, Rachel Whiteread, Jake and Dinos Chapman, John Currin, Jasper Johns, Gilbert and George and Nan Goldin. ![]() Helena Kennedy QC, barrister and broadcaster, is an avid art collector, leading criminal lawyer (having acted in many of the prominent cases of the last decade) and a devoted charity worker. Her charity, the Helena Kennedy Foundation strives to help students lacking in funding receive a higher education. Awarded a life peerage in 1997, she passionately promotes human rights and social justice and has been the recipient of many awards and acknowledgements for her outstanding achievements. She is also a trustee and chair of Arts & Business, the organisation which brings together the communities of businesses and arts organizations.
