ING Prizewinner 2005The ING Purchase Prize was awarded to Edmund Chamberlain, a graduate of Newcastle University, for his painting 'Brixton Street'. Edmund's brother, Lewis, won the same prize at Discerning Eye's 2001 Exhibition. ![]() Chairman′s Purchase Prize 2005 Rebecca Campbell's work, 'The Garden Shed', was awarded the Chairman's Purchase Prize. Her reaction to winning was one of delight, commenting that she felt 'very honoured' and thrilled to be recognised. The style of her exhibited paintings (5 were selected by Martin Smith, Rebecca being one of his invited artists) evolved from a childhood spent in rural Ireland, where gardens, plants and animals featured large. Her enjoyment of life shines through her work and talking to her at the Private View for artists on 17 November, she clearly revelled in the “heartening buzz” generated by the exhibition. ![]() Rebecca Campbell A relatively new gallery artist - previously her work centred on murals (which she still does to commission) and design - she remarked that now she was in a position to be able to submit to the show and, knowing of the Discerning Eye′s very good reputation and the standard and variety of work she had seen, she would certainly be looking to do this in the future.
