newsletter archive newsletter 6 - autumn 2004 Platform 100 (1) On 29 September 2004, the private view of the Platform 100 project took place at ING's London HQ. The evening attracted approximately four hundred visitors and fifteen works sold. The aim of the project, which allowed 100 ING staff members (chosen by a heavily over subscribed ballot) to select one artist or one work by that artist, was to establish and develop all staff members' interest in art. This could be as a selector, a purchaser or just as one who would come and observe. As ING's Igno van Waesberghe's forward for the catalogue pointed out, the project was also intended to have the effect of "strengthening relationships" between the different ING companies and personnel in the UK.

The exhibition proved a great success and a selection of the works will be going on tour to Baring Asset Management offices in Bishopsgate in the City and ING Lease offices in West Byfleet, Surrey and Enfield in Middlesex. The Discerning Eye is again delighted to be associated with such an innovative and unique event. Here are some comments from selectors:"This was the first time that I have taken part in such a project, and I found everything to be different than I had initially envisioned. I feel privileged to have contributed. My chosen artist, Alexis Soul-Gray, is just starting out in her career as an artist and was thrilled to take part (even her parents came along to the party last night). This was the most important thing for me" Baring Asset Management selector"On each of the three times I returned to look at the blocks I saw something different in them. There is an organic feel and depth to the works, I like them, I could live with them, I wish I could afford them !" Jason McMillan - Baring Asset Management "Just wanted to say that I attended last night and thought the exhibition was brilliant - a broad range of very good pieces" Baring Asset Management selector"Finally selecting just one work was more difficult than I imagined" ING Bank selector"The beauty of art is that everyone has their own interpretation; a catalyst for discussion, the exchange of ideas between us - this is the rich wealth art brings" ING Bank selector Doran's art is a fusion of innocence and maturity. The viewer is drawn by the girl's large dark eyes and is able to connect with the sense of despair that seems to emanate from these keyholes to the soul ![]() "Bethy"
