newsletter archive newsletter 3 - may 2003 Introduction I am pleased to report that the 2002 Discerning Eye exhibition was another great success with sales for the first time exceeding £100,000. You will find a full breakdown of all the facts and figures of the exhibition in the following pages of this Newsletter.I am also pleased to report that as a result of the success of the 2002 exhibition, our long term relationship with ING is set to continue as ING has recently confirmed it will remain our sponsor for the 2003 exhibition. Apart from the financial security major sponsorship such as this brings I have to point out that sponsorship is not just about the money. It is also about the sponsor taking a real and meaningful interest in the activities of the organisation it supports.
This is something ING has taken very seriously in the time it has been associated with the Discerning Eye and something we are both appreciative and proud of. ING's team work very closely with us and Parker Harris not only to ensure that the exhibition is an enjoyable event for those that attend, but also to encourage as many people as possible to buy works knowing that sales remain crucial both spiritually and financially for the artists and in turn the Discerning Eye. We are delighted to be continuing our relationship with ING and are already working together on some non-exhibition related initiatives for 2003 which I hope to be able to report on later in the year. ![]() Yana Trevail and ′V′ her winner of the Meynell/Fenton prize DISCERNING EYE EXHIBITION 2002 see pages 3, 4 and 5 ![]() Jonathan Wolstenholme with John Caine, retiring Chairman of Discerning Eye, holding Jonathan′s ′A Quiet Read′, winner of the ING Purchase Prize As for the 2003 exhibition, we are currently finalising our list of selectors and will announce who they are in our Notice to Artists leaflets when they are distributed. The 2003 exhibition will again be at the Mall Galleries and all the relevant dates can be found inside this issue. Finally I would like to extend a warm welcome to Bob Benton our new chairman who has now officially taken over from John Caine. You will find a few words from Bob in this issue so he will speak for himself. As for John, I'd like to thank him once more on behalf of the Discerning Eye for his valuable contribution over the years and to wish him good luck as he prepares himself for the daunting but exciting task of being one of the selectors for the 2003 exhibition!
