Student Bursary

As part of Discerning Eye's desire to expand its educational activities, it was decided towards the end of last year that we would offer our first student bursary. It was agreed that the bursary should be provided to cover the cost of tuition fees for the period of one academic year and was offered to the Frink School of Figurative Sculpture.

Having received numerous applications, the Educational Advisory Board was given the task of selecting a student to receive the award. After much deliberation the award of £1,700 was given to Jonathan Edgar. Jonathan was delighted to receive the award and we hope to have some examples of his work available for the next issue.

Schedule for the 2002 Exhibition

Information to artists will be available in late May/June 2002. Submission fees will be £8 per work up to a maximum of six works per artist. London submission dates will be 20th and 21st September 2002. Regional dates are to be confirmed although are usually around a week before the London dates. The 'Sponsor's Private View' will be on Tuesday the 12th of November 2002. The 'Friends and Members' lunchtime preview will be on the 14th November 2002.

Friends and members

The Discerning Eye 'Friends and Members' scheme was introduced in November 2001.

Membership is open to all artists for a fee of £40 per year. The membership fee entitles artists to submit up to six works in the main exhibition in November. For non-members, the price of submitting six works is currently £48.

In addition, members will be informed of all other Discerning Eye activities and, where possible, will receive discounts to participate in such activities. Members will also have the opportunity to attend a special lunchtime preview of the exhibition, and will receive a free exhibition catalogue and two Newsletters a year.

Friends will receive a free exhibition catalogue and two Newsletters a year. Anybody purchasing a work from the main exhibition will automatically become a Friend for one year at no cost.

The 'Friends and Members' scheme is organised by Mrs Jane Wright who until recently worked for The National Trust as a membership co-ordinator.
