There was a special prize this year in honour of the founder of The Discerning Eye - Michael Reynolds. This first Founder's Prize was selected by Brian Sewell, who co-sponsored the prize with The Discerning Eye and who spoke about Michael Reynolds and his choice of Nick Botting's 'Full house at the Palladium' as the inaugural prize ~

I think the artist will be quite pleased
because he has been bullying me for at least
ten years to go to his studio and look at his pictures and I never have. It has something of Sickert about it that I find enchanting -
that's the reason for my choice ...
it's rather a good little painting
